Right till the 1960s, Jayanagar was considered one of the largest urban settlements in Asia. Jayanagar was established in 1948. According to a few resources, the name Jayanagar was derived from the first name of a Maharaja called “Jayachamaraja” who ruled Mysore. This area was then reserved for different government officials and later opened to general public. Jayanagar stretch includes 10 Blocks, with 3rd and the 4th one being the main center for all commercial activities. The rest of the blocks are mostly residential zones. IV Block incorporates huge shopping complexes and restaurants. There are parks in most of the blocks giving elder residents the option to take long walks and connect with nature.
